Warminster 57 Trowbridge 12

On Saturday 12th March Trowbridge 2s travelled to Warminster fresh from their home win against local rivals Westbury the previous week. Top of the league and feeling invincible, though slightly depleted, Trowbridge 2s arrived with a somewhat arrogance and naivety as the sun shone on them for the first time in months. The season had been a long one, and thrown many challenges, but the most pivotal challenge of the season was yet to come. Warminster, deemed as a unlikely threat, who were war torn from their previous encounter with Trowbridge earlier in the season had regrouped; and were ready to spoil the champagne supernova that Trowbridge were hoping for.

The Trowbridge captain read a change in the wind prior to kick off, sounding the alarm which fell on deaf ears. The battle of Wiltshire was about to commence.

The match kicked off with Warminster asserting their dominance early doors. As they waded through no man's which looked like the battle of the Somme, casualties were racking up on both sides with Trowbridge number 9 being the first casualty of war. Warminster scored on multiple occasions with Trowbridge 2s younger and lesser experienced conscripts being left shell shocked in the moment.

A yellow card on the Warminster side allowed Trowbridge to regroup and form some sort of counter attack allowing for a couple of tries prior to the end of the first half.

Half time 26-12

The second half seemed like Trowbridge could somehow snatch a win from the jaws of defeat with Warminster receiving their 2nd yellow card; however things quickly took a turn for the worst. Trowbridge own captain became a casualty of warfare from a lineout which gave Warminster the green light for the next offensive. Trowbridge fought to the death as resistance was futile, and Warminster added multiple tries to their tally. The battle of Wiltshire was lost for Trowbridge and ultimately the title race was over.

Reality of warfare was yet to sink in for the lads, however a realisation of the spoils of war were made apparent today. We took many casualties on this day, however aim to regroup for the last three battles that lay ahead to seal our place 2nd of Dorset and Wilts 2 North.

Final score 57-12. Lest we forget.

Over and out.
