Bath Combination Cup Semi Final Match Report

Sarah Davies23 Apr - 16:00

Trowbridge 46 Midsomer Norton 21

This was the first match between the clubs despite both being assigned to the Bath Combination Cup for a number of years. Norton play In Counties 1 Tribute Ale Western North and lie in 4th place with one remaining match against Clifton 2nds on Saturday to complete their fixtures? Trowbridge were without six players for the match with Ben Mallett, Ryan Lech, Sam Harrison and Oakley Milton not available and Alex Murchison and Fin Parsons nursing injuries. Rory Murchison, Fin Morris, Gareth Davis, Dan Bowden, Andrew Twinney and Archie Robertson joined the squad.

Trowbridge were to the fore early in the match and the forwards exerted pressure sufficient to allow hooker Rhys Redman to score early on but Norton responded with a try on the quarter of an hour and this was converted. The score was 5-7. Play was mainly in the visitors half but mistakes were made and chances were missed. Further tries came from Ethan Hutt, Kacey Pike and Rory Murchison before the break and Tom Weaver kicked a conversion.

In the first minute of the second half Norton charge down a kick from the base of the scrum and were awarded a penalty try before player coach and full back Luke Daniels scored a good individual try. This brought the score to 22-21 but almost immediately the Trowbridge forwards advanced and scored a try. This was followed by further tries from Jayden Ephgrave, Kyle Oakley and Jack Davies. Tom Weaver kicked another conversion and wing Alex Christopher converted the last try from the touch line.

Trowbridge were comfortable winners in the end but Midsomer Norton played with some spirit and supporters agreed that they had perform much better than some teams that had played at Doric Park during the league
season.

With Chippenham overcoming Keynsham after being down in the early stages of their game, the final will be at Revreation Ground in Bath on Wednesday 6th May at 7.30pm after the other final which kicks off earlier at 6.00pm.
