Getting to know Ed Nixon (backrow)

Ali Lund7 Jan 2021 - 11:59

Brother of Bayonne and Ex Bath Rugby prop Sam

1. About my rugby career:
Local 'club slut', having played for nine Rugby Clubs over the last 17 years of both junior and adult Rugby. Castle Cary RFC, Tor RFC, Martock RFC, Newport Salop RUFC, Harper Adams University RFC, Butleigh RFC, Yeovil RFC (Colts), Sherborne RFC (Juniors), and Trowbridge RFC

2. What’s your favourite rugby moment?
There are a few; however recently was our revival at the end of last season to remain in South West 1 East.

3. Who’s your rugby hero?
Jonny Wilkinson

4. If you could meet a rugby player, who would it be and why?
Jonny Wilkinson, because he stands for everything that the game represents to the local and wider community. For the love of the game. A true inspiration for both the current and younger generations.

5. If you weren’t a rugby player what would you be and why?
I used to play a game at School called Fives; Like squash but using your hands with gloves. Unfortunately this sport is quite rare, however I would like this to be introduced by more sports centres as this would be an easy sport to reinstate.

6. Which law of rugby would you change and why?
I'm not sure about a specific law, however Rugby Union must remain separate to Rugby League and keep its core structure and valued which it is sadly losing.

7. What advice would you give to younger rugby players?
Keeping fit definitely helps with your progress in Rugby. Strong in the body; strong in the mind. It is important to keep active and keep both physically and mentally fit whilst also enjoying a Beer or two!

8. Who inspired you to play rugby?
England Rugby sparked my enthusiasm for the sport as originally I was not too bothered. England winning the World Cup in 2003 set my sights on the sport at an early stage in my life when I was 13 and realised this was a sport for me.

9. What keeps you motivated to keep playing?
The social and fitness aspects surrounding the sport, as well as the 'team' aspect which you don't get with many other sports.

10. Describe Trowbridge Rugby Club in three words.
UP THE TROWBRIDGE

11. What’s your go to karaoke song?
Wonderwall

12. What’s your favourite film?
Tough question… Jurassic Park

13. You’re cooking for six. What’s on the menu and who’s at your dinner table?
Absolute meat fest… steak, pork loin, chicken skewers, pork sausages, corn on the cob. Slaw for good measure. And for the sauce… it has to be Heinz! Guests would be VIP's from the 'Winners Lounge' at TRFC #UTT
