GETTING TO KNOW MAX DAY (BACKROW)

GETTING TO KNOW MAX DAY (BACKROW)

Ali Lund20 Jan 2021 - 13:00

This week in our getting to know you series we have spent some time talking with 1st XV Captain Max Day

1. About my rugby career: - I’ve played all over, from starting at minis rugby in Sussex, moving to Ireland and playing for local clubs there before playing for my school and age grade with Leinster. Then played for a couple of clubs in Wales when at uni before moving to the best of them all…..Trowbridge!

2. What’s your favourite rugby moment? – Had a few good ones, but probably the one that springs to mind is winning Southern Counties League a couple of years back. Unfortunately I pulled out of the warm up in the deciding game due to injury, but I guess Smithy didn’t do too badly.

3. Who’s your rugby hero? – Martin Johnson. Some of my earliest memories of watching rugby are watching England winning the world cup and he was a great captain and tough as nails.

4. If you could meet a rugby player, who would it be and why? – Probably Richie McCaw. I think his attitude to the game and work ethic is something to really strive to and admire.

5. If you weren’t a rugby player what would you be and why? – Morbidly obese.

6. Which law of rugby would you change and why? – If anything I would get rid of the law preventing you from kicking the ball through the ruck. It was far more fun before.

7. What advice would you give to younger rugby players? – The most important thing when playing rugby is to have a good attitude and work hard, if you have that everything else falls into place.

8. Who inspired you to play rugby? – It was my Dad that first introduced me to it when I was younger.

9. What keeps you motivated to keep playing? – Keeping fit but also a great social atmosphere with all the lads, coaches and social members of the club.

10. Describe Trowbridge Rugby Club in three words. – Lads, lads, lads

11. What’s your go to karaoke song? – Man I feel like a woman Shania Twain

12. What’s your favourite film? – Tough one, but I love In Bruges

13. You’re cooking for six. What’s on the menu and who’s at your dinner table? – Probably steak or something very meaty. If I’m only cooking for 6 it will just be me.

Quick fire one word answers:

Forwards or backs? - Forwards

Muddy or dry? - Dry

Grass or artificial? - Grass

City break or country retreat? – Country Retreat

Ski or beach? - Beach

Thanks for your time Max! I am not sure what the ladies are going to say about all this 'lads, lads, lads' stuff...
