You will all have read our Chairman, Derek Tucker’s announcement last weekend about the very difficult decision we have had to make regarding how we will manage our grounds at Doric Park in the future. The harsh economic reality of running a business these days remains a constant challenge, and we have concluded that we should move away from employing a full-time groundsman and look to form a “Grounds Committee” made up of valued volunteers. Anyone who might feel that they can donate/contribute some of their valuable time to help us maintain our grounds – e.g., cutting grass, marking out pitches, some general outside maintenance tasks, keeping the bunds and patio areas clean and tidy, are asked to get in touch with me at chrisf.lamb@btopenworld.com or 07914 819580. Training will be provided on the use of our equipment. Rest assured that major grounds maintenance/repair work will still be undertaken by outside commercial contractors, so don’t get put-off by your perceived lack of experience – all we are looking for is pairs of willing hands. This will be fun and represents a great opportunity for our membership to take more ownership of your Club, whilst enjoying some valuable outdoor exercise.
