Trowbridge 2nds 55 - Swanage & Wareham 17
First ever league win for second string over Swans
With the first team league programme complete, attention from Trowbridge turned to the second team for this first ever league match between the second team and Swanage & Wareham at Doric Park. The match started brightly for the Swans with wing George Crouch converting a penalty in the first 5 minutes but soon after Trowbridge hooker and captain Mark King forced his way over the whitewash in the corner. Soon after flanker Fin Parsons went over. Archie Robinson converted both tries. Trowbridge dominated possession for the rest of the first half and the teams turned round with the score 31-3 to the hosts. King had completed a hat trick at this stage and Sam Harrison playing at fly half also touched down after spotting a gap in the Swans defence. Robinson converted one of these tries.
Trowbridge continued to attack and Ali Frost, returning for his first match since Christmas almost crossed in the first minute, but a scrum was called for a knock on. As it happened, Robinson went over under the posts and converted, but an injury in the Swans front row meant uncontested scrums were required for the remainder of the match. No 8 Rory Murchison scored a try, converted by Robinson before Swans rallied and forced several penalties in the home red area before fly half Thomas Minns broke through for Crouch to convert. Crouch also score a try that he converted and the score was 45-17. Play became disjointed and penalties were rife on both sides with a couple of yellow cards, but play was concluded with replacement Max Day and Murchison scoring in the last five minutes to complete the scoring.
An entertaining match and a much improved late part of the season, while Swans ended in mid table after being at the top in the early part of the season. Trowbridge travel to Salisbury in their final league match next Saturday and Trowbridge play Midsomer Norton in the Bath Combination Cup at Doric Park on Wednesday 22nd April Kick off 7.30pm.
