Congratulations to Peter Emuss, named TRFC 3XV Player of the Match on Sunday in what proved to be an emotional and memorable final appearance in a Trowbridge shirt.
After more than three decades in rugby, Peter has brought an extraordinary playing journey to a close. From his school days at CRGS, through spells with Harwich & Dovercourt, Bath University, Old Sulians RFC and Bath Saracens, Peter’s rugby story ultimately found a long and valued chapter at Trowbridge RFC.
Fittingly, his final game ended with a Player of the Match performance - a reflection of the commitment, quality and passion he has brought to the club throughout his time at Trowbridge.
Reflecting on his retirement, Peter said: “It has been just over 30 years of playing rugby, from school with CRGS, to Harwich & Dovercourt, to Bath Uni, to Old Sulians RFC, to a brief detour to Bath Saracens, to Trowbridge Rugby Football Club, and today it came to an end.
Thank you to (almost) everyone I’ve played with, all the refs and coaches and volunteers who made things happen behind the scenes. I have loved playing this wonderful sport and I was in tears at the end of the game today at the thought of never ever getting to do it again. If I wasn’t being forced to retire by things out of my control, then I wouldn’t be going.
Thank you all. I am going to miss this, so, so much.”
His words capture exactly what rugby means to those who give so much to it.
Everyone at Trowbridge RFC would like to thank Peter for everything he has given to the club in the shirt. He has been a fantastic servant to TRFC, a committed teammate, and someone who has embodied the spirit of the club.
To sign off with a Player of the Match performance is a fitting way to end an outstanding playing career.
Peter, congratulations on a remarkable rugby journey. Thank you for your service to Trowbridge RFC, and enjoy your retirement - you’ve more than earned it!
