Trowbridge Through To Semi Finals
Trowbridge 19
Dorchester 3
An impressive defensive performance in the quarter final of Dorset & Wilts Intermediate Cup saw the home team through against a good Dorchester side in the first meeting between these two sides this season.
For a low scoring encounter the opening exchanges were particular good with both sets of backs getting plenty of ball but somehow failing to get on the score board, the Trowbridge pack started to have the edge at the set piece and their dominance at scrum time began to pay off as the Dorchester pack found itself on the back foot.
Dorchester opened the scoring through a successful penalty from their full back Jamie Morgan, and it was not long before Trowbridge responded with a well worked try through the forwards with prop Karl Parry diving over the line to score the home side first points Lloyd Davis adding the conversion to end the first half 7 – 3.
The second half saw Trowbridge pile on the pressure spending a long time camped on the Dorchester line until eventually setting up a try for number eight Shane Johnstone with Davis adding the two extras, the home side now were in total control for the rest of the game with the only other points coming once again through the home pack when much to everyone’s surprise veteran second row Mark Durant found himself with ball in hand and a clear run through to the try line, the conversion was unsuccessful making the final score 19 – 3.
