High Wycombe 21 Trowbridge 15

Trowbridge run of poor form away from home continued with a defeat to third from bottom High Wycombe, the visitors had problems from the warm up session with stand-off and main goal kicker Lloyd Davis picking up an injury that relegated him to the bench for the entire game, this caused coach Ojomoh to reshuffle the Trowbridge backs, Matt Johnson came off the bench and in at scrum half, Dave Finlay moved to stand-off and George Leat joined Dan Smith in the centre. Wycombe opened the scoring with a penalty goal after twenty minutes from their stand-off Cameron Baker to put them three points to nil in front, Trowbridge had a chance to level the score’s on thirty one minutes but youngster Ollie Weaver was unsuccessful kicking just wide of the posts, the visitors through frustration continued to offend, poor discipline and back chat being the main problem causing the referee Mr Shepard to award a penalty try to Wycombe after a push over try attempt had collapsed , Dan Smith receiving a yellow card, a successful conversion from Cameron Baker put the home side ten points to nil in front on thirty six minutes and a further successful penalty from Baker on the stroke of half time put Wycombe thirteen points to nil ahead at the break.
High Wycombe restarted the second half with a long kick deep into the Trowbridge half, Trowbridge full back Ashley Chalk was able to run the ball back into contact setting up a rolling maul and from that moment on with the big home pack starting to tire the visitors took more control stretching the home defence spreading the ball wide at every opportunity as this seemed to cause the home side problems, now back to full strength Trowbridge had more shape to their game and on fifty minutes Dave Finlay broke a tackle and linked up with George Leat putting Leat into space enabling him to score a try out wide from forty metres again Ollie Weaver was unsuccessful with the conversion making the score thirteen points to five to High Wycombe, again from the restart the visitors attacked running the ball wide at every opportunity eventually managing to beat the Wycombe drifting defence to put youngster Ollie Weaver in scoring out wide but again the conversion was missed, with the score now thirteen points to ten and time running out Trowbridge had the chance to steal a victory, only to have the Trowbridge backs caught off- side and be moved back a further ten metres after some unnecessary back chat giving Wycombe’s Cameron Baker an easier successful penalty gaol, making the score now sixteen points to ten, not giving up Trowbridge pushed back again running the ball out wide forcing the home side to defend until Trowbridge forced an over-lap and sent in Ollie Weaver for his second try out wide but once again the conversion was missed, with the score now sixteen points to fifteen the home sides pack got second wind and began to take control forcing Trowbridge back by keeping the ball tight putting pressure on the visitors defence until from a set scrum on the Trowbridge line they scored a push over try number eight Jacob Palmer touching down Cameron Baker missed with the conversion ending the game twenty one points to fifteen (21-15).
