Trowbridge were forced into making changes from the original selected fifteen Dan Phillips pulling out due to a knee injury, and scrum half George Leat unavailable, Ollie Weaver was brought in at scrum half and Henry Turner came in on the bench as replacement hooker, Grove got proceedings under way with a long kick off deep into the Trowbridge half and out of play forcing a restart scrum to Trowbridge on half way, the visitors responded well attacking the Grove defences putting them under pressure but again by giving away simple penalties lost ground and eased the pressure on the home side, the stalemate was eventually broken after twenty minutes when from a set scrum on half way Trowbridge moved the ball along the backs to George Fowles on the left wing then back inside to full back Iuean Turner and to finish off the move right wing Ashley Chalk crossed the line out wide for the first score of the game, the conversion was missed (0-5),Grove responded by forcing the visitors on to the back foot with a sustained attack on the Trowbridge line but with some good defending Trowbridge managed to keep them out until Grove forced an overlap putting full back Archie Van Dijk in to score, Grove scrum half Joe Chilvers missed the conversion making the scores level (5-5),again Trowbridge responded well forcing the home side back until they were rewarded with a five metre scrum and were able to push the Grove pack back over their own line Mark Durant getting the touch down, the conversion was missed but the try put Trowbridge in front at half time (5-10).
Trowbridge started the second half but with the heavy pitch starting to take a toll on both packs the pace was slow, however the Grove backs still looked dangerous and midway through the half the Grove centre Sam Allan broke the Trowbridge defence to run from forty metres to score under the posts, Joe Chilvers making no mistake with the extra two points (12-10), not giving up the visitors with a series of picks and drives forced their way back up the pitch and back into the game spreading the ball wide at every opportunity were very unlucky not to score on two occasions with Ashley Chalk and Iuean Turner both being stopped just short of the Grove try line, they were however awarded a kickable penalty that Joe Knight successfully kicked to hand the lead back to Trowbridge (12-13) Trowbridge worked very hard in defence to try and hang on to their slender lead for the remaining moments of the game, but were undone by the Grove backs in the last minute of normal time when the Grove right wing Brendan White got through to score in the corner, Joe Chilvers missed the conversion to end the game seventeen – thirteen (17-13).
