Wimborne were mightily relieved to come out of this game with a victory. They found Trowbridge doughty opponents, unwilling to give in, battling for every loose ball, and for long periods of time it looked like the journey down from Wiltshire would be rewarded with a victory.
Both sides games were error strewn and it was only after a yellow card for Trowbridge’s Sam Edwards that Wimborne took the lead with a penalty from Jim Brokenshire, Trowbridge now a man down struggled to defend their line and some good pressure from the home side resulted in a try from Wimborne’s Charlie Samways and conversion from Brokenshire.
Trowbridge now back to full strength gradually got the momentum back and from a forward drive that seemed to petering out until the ball fell to the Trowbridge winger Ashley Chalk who had drifted infield with pace and a strong run ghosted through the home defence to score near the posts with Lloyd Davis adding the extra’s to end the first half 10 – 7.
Trowbridge raised their game from the resumption moving the ball out wide attacking the home defence and were rewarded with a second try from their wing Ashley Chalk the conversion was missed but the visitors took the lead for the first time in the game.
The lead changed hands twice more with penalty goals from both sides bring the score to 13 – 15 going into the last quarter of the game, Wimborne now in danger of losing their first game this season piled the pressure on the visitors defence, eventually breaking through with a try from their captain Steve King and conversion from Brokenshire to hand the lead back to Wimborne only for them to score once more in the dyeing moments of the game with a try from replacement Jack Wilson give the home side a victory.
