Trowbridge 24
Sherborne 17
Trowbridge picked up their second win of the season in an error ridden performance at their Doric Park ground, with the only points of the first half coming from penalties the score was level at 3 – 3 at the end.
The home side started the second half playing the better rugby and it was not long before the Trowbridge forwards keeping the ball in an impressive rolling maul crashed through the Sherborne defence resulting in a try for prop Sam Edwards and successful conversion from Tom Weaver. Trowbridge were then rejoiced in numbers when winger Adam Sullivan was yellow carded giving the visitors an advantage out wide which they spotted very quickly stretching the home defence and sending centre Ben Austin in for their first try with Tom Hopkins adding the extras to bring the scores level once again at 10 – 10.
Until the return of winger Adam Sullivan Trowbridge kept playing the ball through the forwards which were now starting to prove the stronger of the two packs with rucks and mauls going their way they spent a long time camped on the Sherborn line eventually pushing new boy Alan Chadwick over for his first try at his new club Tom Weaver adding the conversion.
Now back to a full team the home side did start to spread the ball wide with some powerful runs from the backs pilling the pressure on the Sherborne defence which eventually gave way allowing James McFarlane in for a try that was also converted from the boot of Tom Weaver, Sherborns never give up attitude did result in a final score for Tom Higgins and a successful conversion from Tom Hopkins as the final kick of the game (24 – 17)
