Swans outmuscled

A big Trowbridge pack dominated proceedings at Swanage & Wareham’s Bestwell Rd ground to help earn the visitors a 4 try bonus point win away from home.

From the start Trowbridge took control, and it was not long before holes appeared in the home defence allowing Trowbridge centre Joe Knight to carve a way through to score under the posts giving Lloyd Davis an easy conversion, this seemed to shake the home side into action, and making the best use of what little ball their pack could win the Swanage backs pressured the Trowbridge defences which eventually gave way to a strong run in for a try for winger Darren Wilcox only for the conversion to be missed,

Trowbridge once again took control from the restart and through some forceful pick and drive play took the ball up to the Swanage line where No8 Shane Johnstone powered his way over Lloyd Davis adding the extras, into the last quarter of the first half and play was held up for some time due to an injury to the home sides wing after a collision with Trowbridge’s Ashley Chalk that the home crowd took exception to and were still complaining to the referee as their replacement Kirk Jones intercepted a sliced kick from Lloyd Davis to run 70 metres and score this seemed to calm the situation the conversion was missed and order was restored to end the first half 10 – 14.

Swanage started the second half in more determined way with their forwards competing for everything forcing Trowbridge into giving away three penalties two converted and the other missed by the home side only for Trowbridge to be awarded a penalty that Lloyd Davis converted, the home side defended well despite being put under a lot of pressure with several scrums on the Swanage try line this time bringing Trowbridge Scrum Half Kyle Knight into action with a well taken try out wide the conversion was missed. Now into the last quarter of the game the home side failed to clear their line with a defensive kick to touch only for the ball to fall into the hands of Trowbridge winger James Davies who ran straight back at them and placing a neat grubber kick through the defence ran around them to score the 4th bonus point try the conversion was missed so the result stood at 16 – 27.
