Devizes survive late Trowbridge revival

Devizes 32 – 28 Trowbridge

Devizes held out for a four point victory after Trowbridge piled on the pressure in the second half to earn their first two bonus points of the new season
Devizes started this fixture looking the stronger team, but with Trowbridge having the bigger pack it was not long before the visitors started to get possession but in doing so they give away penalty’s, step up Rory Brown who opened the scoring for the home side with a penalty, then a try which he converted himself to put Devizes ten points clear in as many minuets, play continued with Devizes attacking the visitors line making it very difficult for Trowbridge to defend, from another tap and go penalty Devizes drove infield and broke through the visitors defence sending second row Charlie Paget in to score near the posts but Rory Brown was unable to add the conversion making the score fifteen points to nil at the half time whistle.
Trowbridge started the second half at pace looking to keep possession of the ball trying to attack the Devizes line from every angle, this more aggressive response really started to pay off as Lloyd Davis found himself clear and in behind the home defence to touch down for the visitors first score, he then added the conversion, but Devizes fought back taking play into the Trowbridge twenty two stretching their defence once again until Charlie Paget touched down for his second score this time Rory Brown added the extra two points, only for the home side to increase the score still further shortly after with a try from wing forward Rhys Harries, Brown was unable to add the extra two points giving the home side a commanding twenty Seven points to seven advantage, not giving up Trowbridge fought back with some powerful play Shai Bonnick on his first team debut was outstanding and once again forcing the home side on to the back foot, from a powerful run from centre Joe Knight linking up with his forwards put second row Mark Durant in to score near the posts Lloyd Davis adding the extra two points. The home side still had another score in them this time full back Luke Rapson joining his backs to give Devizes an overlap of two and scoring out wide but again Brown was unable to add the conversion, now into the last quarter with the home side leading thirty two points to fourteen, now Trowbridge really did start to attack the Devizes try line forcing them to defend all across the pitch, once again the visitors forwards picked and drove their way across the home teams line Matt Howard getting the touch down and Davis kicking the conversion, with the score now thirty two points to twenty one the home side started to wobble in defence allowing a carbon copy of the last try with Matt Howard getting his second Davis again adding the extra two points the score now thirty two to twenty eight leaving the home side a very nervous last five minutes to defend their slender advantage which they managed to hang on to, ending the game thirty two to twenty eight (32-28)
