Trowbridge 30 – 13 Maidenhead:- Trowbridge Youngsters Shine

George Leat, Josh Frost, Dan Phillips, Shia Bonnick, and Niall Jones all stepped up to perform well at the top level in a stop start game that lead to some frustration but did not prevent Trowbridge recording their second win of the season as they beat Maidenhead.
Maidenhead were first on the board after just five minutes with a penalty goal from number ten Carl Stephens, only for the home side to level matters with a Lloyd Davis penalty goal, with the home forwards now beginning to exert some control Trowbridge regained the lead with another penalty goal from Davis after the referee lost patience with the visitors taking down a maul, the home side continued to play the better rugby, Tom Weaver. James Davies and Ashley Chalk showed some good ball handling skills breaking through the Maidenhead defence and from the resulting maul Ashley Chalk showed good pace to score out wide Lloyd Davis added the extra two points to give the home side a thirteen points to three advantage. Maidenhead came back piling on the pressure and from a pushover lock Phil White touched down to score Stephens missed the conversion to make the score thirteen points to eight at the break.
In the second half the home side started at pace pinning the visitors back in their own half due mainly to some good tactical kicking from Lloyd Davis, this put the pressure on the visitors defence and from a Trowbridge scrum George Leat broke through the Maidenhead defence to score the first of his brace of try’s Lloyd Davis again making good the conversion, once again the visitors came right back at Trowbridge and from the restart forced play back up field resulting in another pushover try this time their number eight James Emmanuel got the touch down but again Stephens was unsuccessful with the conversion making the score twenty points to thirteen, again the frustration showed with the referee having to stop the game due to poor discipline from both sides and from the resulting penalty gave Davis another successful shot at goal, twenty three points to thirteen, now into the last quarter of the game with the hosts having to defend Maidenhead throwing everything into attack and in pushing forward leaving their defence exposed at the back, Trowbridge turned the ball over from a ruck and braking round the blind side produced the best score of the game, with forwards and backs combining in a passing movement that took them sixty metres sending George Leat in to finish and score under the posts , Davis added the two points to finish the game thirty points to thirteen (30 – 13).
