Swindon 28-23 Trowbridge

Trowbridge put a good Swindon side under pressure from the kick off forcing them to give away a penalty in front of the posts after only six minutes. Tom Weaver slotted an easy goal to give the visitors a good start at Swindon’s Greenbridge Rd ground. Both sides soon showed they were keen to run the ball through forwards and backs attacking defences, the break through for Swindon came from a poor defensive kick by the visitors and ended with a try for the Swindon hooker Troy, the conversion was missed but it put the home team into the lead for the first time five points to three, Trowbridge fought back and started to take control of the set pieces pushing Swindon’s scrum and working the ball through the pack until Tom Coombs went over out wide for the first of his two first half try’s, Weaver missed with the conversion, but Trowbridge regained the lead five points to eight and it took a penalty goal from Swindon’s fly half Westall to level things at eight points each only for the visitors to infringe once again and hand the lead back to the home side with another penalty goal from Westall to make the score eleven points to eight, but once again the lead changed hands when Tom Coombs went over for his second try, again Weaver missed the conversion, with the score now eleven points to thirteen in Trowbridge favour, Swindon had the last say in a very good first half when winger Wilson went over for the first of his two try’s making the score sixteen points to thirteen at the break.
With the scores very close both sides started the second period trying very hard not to make mistakes, there then followed an extended passage of play without a score, until from a poor line out from the home side just outside the Swindon twenty two Tom Weaver gathered a loose ball and crashed through the home defence to score converting his own try making the score sixteen points to twenty in favour of the visitors, but once again Swindon came back with a second score from winger Wilson, Westall missed the conversion but the lead was once again handed back to Swindon by a point at twenty one twenty, the visitors forwards continued to put pressure on the home pack forcing another penalty Tom Weaver increased the lead with a forty metre goal to give the visitors a two point advantage, twenty one twenty three, now into the last quarter with Trowbridge looking for their first away win, but this was not to be as Swindon stole a line out ball and again with forwards and backs combining scored in the last moments, this time Westall converted the score to finish a very good game twenty eight points to twenty three.
