Buckingham 15-37 Trowbridge

Trowbridge came away from Buckingham’s Floyd Field with their first bonus point win away from home so far this season. The home side using their local knowledge to good effect by playing with the sun at their backs bombarded the Trowbridge defence with high kicks pinning the visitors back in their own twenty two, the stalemate was only broken when Trowbridge using their backs to run out of defence forced their way up to the Buckingham’s ten metre line creating a successful penalty opportunity for Lloyd Davis to put Trowbridge in front 0 -3, Buckingham maintaining the same tactics continued to pin the visitor’s back forcing a penalty and from the kick to the corner scored the first try from a catch and drive lineout ball number eight and captain Phil Wright getting the touch down, Calum Gillie was unsuccessful with the conversion bringing the score to 5-3 to Buckingham. From the restart the visitor’s applied the pressure forcing another successful penalty from Lloyd Davis to make the score 5-6 again Buckingham continued with the high ball to great effect this time with a carbon copy of their first try Phil Wright again getting the touch down and Calum Gillie missing with the conversion to make the score 10-6 to the home side. From a good restart kick off Trowbridge won the ball forcing the home side to defend some powerful forward and backs attacks until the pressure in defence got too much and Dave Finlay broke through to score the first of his two try’s Lloyd Davis added the extra two points giving the advantage back to Trowbridge 10-13, the home side continued to fight back forcing the visitors back in defence again, and after several scrum resets lock Jamie Temple went over to score a good forward try but again Calum Gillie missed with the conversion but handing back the lead to Buckingham 15-13 with the half time break looming Trowbridge were determined to go in front at the break when the opportunity presented itself as Buckingham were judged to have not released a player from a tackle, Lloyd Davis taking the three points to make the score 15-16 at the break.
The second half got underway with the visitors starting to take control speeding the ball around and looking confident forcing Buckingham to defend, Dan Smith was next to get on the score sheet scoring from a well worked try involving all the backs, Shai Bonnick, Ashley Chalk, Dave Finlay, George Leat and James Davies all played well, Lloyd Davis adding the extra’s 15-23, up front the home pack started to look tired coming under relentless pressure from the visitors until Sam Edwards forced his way over once again Davis adding the extra’s 15-30, now in to the final quarter and Trowbridge looking for the bonus point try, Dave Finlay gathered up a loose ball and cut through the home defence to score under the posts leaving Lloyd Davis a final conversion to take the score to 15-37 and end the game.
