Trowbridge lose in competitive match

Trowbridge were brought back to reality on Saturday after their pre-Christmas run of three wins out of three,
Trowbridge started the game by putting the Grove defence under pressure and looked to all like scoring at any moment, but after a counter attack and a kick to touch from the home backs the Grove scrum half Tom Wells suffered a serious injury from the resulting line out stopping the game, a decision was made to move the game to the next pitch over due to the day light time remaining and to allow the para-medics to attend the Grove scrum half, from this point on the visitors looked a different side allowing the big Grove pack to dictate terms, the visitors did however mount several powerful attacks spreading the ball wide but on the whole any ball Trowbridge did retain was lost giving the momentum back to Grove.
Grove were first to get on the score board when right wing Huw Lewis chip kicked a ball in behind the Trowbridge defence gathering it up and racing in to score under the posts giving Harry Carr a simple shot at goal to make score seven – nil, again from the restart the visitors seemed unable to cope with the muddy conditions giving away several set scrums until eventually gaining some momentum and forcing the Grove defence back into their own twenty two and from some good interplay between the Trowbridge backs sent in Dave Finlay to score out wide, Lloyd Davis was unable to add the extras making the score seven – five to Grove, now into the last quarter of the first half with the pressure increasing the Grove pack forced their way back into the Trowbridge half picking and driving until the pressure told and Huw Lewis got his second pushing through the Trowbridge defence to score once again under the post giving Harry Carr another simple kick at goal. Fourteen – five to Grove and half time.
There was no addition to the scores from either side in this half but both sets of forwards continued to battle away, play moved from end to end both sides looked like they would score, Trowbridge did have an opportunity to get a losing bonus point at the end of the game but turned down a penalty goal in order to kick to the corner from the line out Trowbridge did catch and drive but this was successfully defended by Grove forcing a penalty and a kick to touch to end the game (14 – 5).
