Towcester 34 Trowbridge 5

After an uncaristic loss to Witney the previous week promotion chasing Towcestrians needed a bonus point win in order regain their second in the league position and get their season back on track. although depleted through availability and injury Trowbridge made the long trip up to Towcester with youngsters Gareth Davis, Phil Kilcoyne, and Aaron Bray stepping up to fill the gap’s. Trowbridge kicked off with a strong wind at their backs and never got any ball for the next twenty minutes, the home side attacked from the first whistle prodding and probing at the visitors defence which held firm, only to get the first score after a penalty from referee Nicola Reynolds went the home sides way kicking to the corner and with a catch and drive rolling maul they slipped the ball to hooker Fen Gallagher who went in to score unopposed on the blind side, full back James Falvey was unsuccessful with the conversion, five – nil (5-0) to the home side. Trowbridge fought back from the restart both evenly matched packs trying to dominate, but every time the home backs got the ball they started to look very dangerous running and stretching the Trowbridge defence until again finding a way through the full back James Falvey went in to score out wide he was again unsuccessful with the conversion, ten – nil at the break (10 -0).
Tow’s started the second period as they finished the first their back line looking very dangerous with ball in hand, and with the wind at their backs it was not long to wait before centre David Devlin-Jones ran through and around the Trowbridge defence to score an excellent solo try from forty metre’s, again full back James Falvey missed with the conversion fifteen – nil (15-0), using their local knowledge by kicking to the corners pinning the visitors back deep in their own half Towcestrians started to take control of the game looking for the bonus point try that would put them back in second place behind leaders Chippenham, from one of their kicks to the corner this time from number ten Marc Yeates wing man Pepe Nanci gathered a loose ball and scored the forth and bonus point try, this time James Falvey was able to get extra two points twenty two – nil (22-0) to the home side. Again Trowbridge tried to selvedge something from this game forcing a penalty and a yellow card from referee Reynolds for a punch from Tow’s prop Dougie Rattray, but not having a replacement front row meant all the set scrums from then on until Rattray’s sin bin was completed went uncontested, but still the visitors could not brake the home defence, with the home side now back to full strength and again looking dangerous Towcestrians mounted another attack this time sending in number eight Craig Holton to score James Falvey making no mistake with the conversion making the score twenty nine – nil (29-0), the visitors again showed great corrector by not giving up and forcing play back deep into Tow’s half and from a set scrum veteran Mark Durant pounced on a loose ball and roared in at pace from five metres to get the try Trowbridge richly deserved, Lloyd Davis was unable to add the extras making the score twenty nine – five (29-5) now into the last five minutes of the game and from the restart Towcestrians again showed their class running the ball along their backs and back inside until fly half Marc Yeates cut through the Trowbridge defence to score out wide again James Falvey was unable to convert ending the game thirty four – five (34-5).
